Colors bring Colors to Life

My entire life has been a never-ending conviction of black skinny jeans, and gray tops, plus a guilt filled space of blue sweaters with the tags I would buy in a not-so-bustle effort to add some variety to my wardrobe. Keeping things colourless is easy: I have never put my conscious mind into getting dressed, for one thing (black always goes with black! And gray!). 2016, made me rejuvenate my wardrobe not because the brightest T-shirt I had, was in a monochromatic grey scale colour, but because one day when I was sluggish, my always brightly tuned co-worker, out in a peppy red, chimed in, “Did you know, the colours we wear can influence your mood?”

Different moods, Different colours. Let us find out how:

Red

The most emotionally penetrating colour, red stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing. It is also the colour of love. Red clothing gets noticed and makes the wearer appear thicker. Since it is an extreme colour, red clothing might not benefit people in discussions or confrontations. Red has a similar effect to burgundy and is “an energizer”.

Blue

The colour of above and below, sky and the ocean, blue is one of the most popular colours worn across the world. It causes the opposite reaction of that caused by the red colour. Peaceful and soothing blue causes the body to produce calming chemicals, so it is often used in bedrooms. Blue can also be cold and depressing. Consultants recommend wearing blue to job interviews because it symbolizes loyalty. Studies show weightlifters are able to handle heavier weights when they are in blue gyms.

Green

Currently the most popular decorating colour, green symbolizes nature. It is the easiest colour falling on the eyes and can improve vision. It is a calming and refreshing colour. People waiting to appear on TV sit in “green rooms” to relax. Hospitals often use green because it relaxes the patients and the doctors. Brides in the Middle Ages wore green to symbolize fertility. Dark green is masculine, conservative, and implies wealth. However, seamstresses often refuse to use green thread on the eve of a fashion show for fear it will bring bad luck. Green is a “bridge colour,” according to Hart. “It helps create a balance between self and others.”

Yellow

Cheerful sunny yellow is an attention getter. While it is considered an optimistic colour, people lose their tempers more often in yellow rooms, and babies generally cry more. It is the most difficult colour for the eye to take in, so it can be overpowering if overused. Yellow enhances concentration, hence its use for legal pads. It also speeds metabolism. It is a ‘joy ray,’ a vibration of being happy and stimulates mental clarity, giving you the ‘I can do anything’.

Purple

The colour of royalty, purple connotes luxury, wealth, and sophistication. It is also feminine and romantic. However, because it is rare in nature, purple can appear artificial.

Pink

Pink is a colour of love and opens you up to self-love. The most romantic colour, pink, is more tranquilizing and soothing to the eyes and mind.

Now that you know it that your black wardrobe is equivalent to menstrual-cycle-depression, I am sure you added this to your resolution that now you need rainbows and believe in unicorns. Basically, you need a drastic change of wardrobe, but please don’t be intellectually bankrupt! Have your own colourful lifestyle.
